We have a 100 acre training centre, offering the largest and most comprehensive scenario based training facilitie based on the ACT/NSW Boarder. The opportunity to train in a varied and realistic training environment better prepares K9 teams for real world deployments.
The AWPDA assists law enforcement agencies to ensure that the handlers and K-9s are receiving the very best training.
The initial training of K-9s and related training can be very expensive. Many many hours of hard work goes into training and preparing the K-9s for the many different scenarios they will face in active duty.
Dogs used in law enforcement are trained to either be “single purpose” or “dual purpose.” Single purpose dogs are used primarily for backup, personal protection, and tracking. Dual purpose dogs do everything that single purpose dogs do and also detect explosives.
The objectives are to:
- Unite and assist all law enforcement agencies in the training and continued improvement of all working dogs.
- Establish a working standard for all working dogs, handlers and trainers, through an accreditation program that is maintained at the highest international standard and recognition.
- Provide educational material through publications, state and training workshops.
